As traditional carpenters we employ a wide variety of carpentry techniques to ensure that we produce a superior and long lasting product. We specialize in using mortise and tenon joints where appropriate to give enhanced strength and structural integrity. We also employ a wide variety of construction techniques including dovetail joints, biscuits joints, miters joints, dado and rabbet joints and of course chamfering on most side edges.

We prefer to use teak dowels for outdoor furniture. However, sometimes the use of a modern stainless steel screw is stronger than a traditional dowel. If a screw is used in the construction then it will be countersunk and a teak pellet (or cap) is then fitted into the recess and hand sanded to ensure a beautiful and clean fit.

What is worm composting?

The Worm Factory automatically separates worms from finished compost. The Worm Factory is easy to set up and easy to use. Place bedding and scraps in the bottom tray then add your worms. Place the lid inside the top tray to provide light cover with proper ventilation. As the worms finish digesting, they will migrate upward into the tray above, leaving rich castings behind. The concentrated liquid created from the worm castings, also known as worm tea, can be effortlessly drained as liquid fertilizer from the spigot at the bottom of The Worm Factory. It couldn’t be easier or cleaner. The lid also provides proper ventilation so there are no unpleasant odors. If poorly ventilated, gas and heat build up and water is formed. With increased moisture in the bedding, the amount of oxygen is depleted. This fosters a chain reaction of anaerobic bacteria which creates more gas, giving off an obnoxious smell of rotten eggs.

To operate an odorless worm composter at its maximum efficiency, the bedding and food must have a controlled amount of moisture and the maximum amount of air. This combination fosters aerobic bacteria, the essential, most basic, single element which worms consume.

With The Worm Factory’s unrestricting lid, the loose fit provides maximum ventilation for air flow to get the good bacteria for your worms and to prevent that rotten egg smell. There are also composting tips printed on the lid for a quick reference.
