Your planter includes your choice of trim colors shown below (rub rail & double waterline). Drainage holes in our planters are standard. Planters are pre-drilled for easy installation and are signed by Carol Parrott.

The creator, Carol Parrott International, Inc. has been in the yacht charter business since 1989. In 2002 we expanded to include the design and manufacture of half-hull boat window box planters. In 2003 we added two new designs; a half-hull boat transom planter and a half-hull boat transom mailbox.

The first design originated when Carol wanted to add a nautical atmosphere to her gardening shed. Unable to find a window box planter with any nautical style, she decided to design her own, a classic half-hull boat. You will notice that the back of the planter is flat so it lays flush against a wall, fence or railing.

Droll Yankees Winner Window Bird FeederI know a lot of people who like birds, and most of them love to feed them in one way or another. Most have birdfeeders that hang from a tree, or they scatter seed outside when there is snow on the ground for the birds that have stuck around for the winter. However, there are some very cool feeders out there that can bring you even closer to the birds that you love. You can get window bird feeders that will allow you to view them without scaring them off.

I first saw window bird feeders when I worked as a maid cleaning houses while going through college. I had no idea that they existed until I saw one, and I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. These window bird feeders were right up against the window, much like a half a bowl. You would think that would scare the birds, but they were rather calm. The window had tinting on it near the feeder that allowed people in the house to watch without the birds even knowing they were there.

These window bird feeders are really great, but they do look as if they cost a pretty penny. If you want to invest in one, I can’t imagine that you would be sorry that you did so. However, if you want something similar, but you don’t want to spend quite as much, you can make your own alternative. You can have your window tinted and hang a few regular feeders out there. The birds will come but will not be able to see you if you come close to the window.

You can find either type of window bird feeders in stores near you, or you can find them online. Don’t forget to get some hummingbird feeders as well, as those can be a lot of fun to own, and the hummingbirds seem to love them. You may want to put different types of bird seed in your window bird feeders so that you can attract more than one type of bird, but try to find some that discourage squirrels because once they are in there, but birds will be much less likely to come and relax in your feeder. Squirrels can be distracted by offering them their own food in squirrel feeders, set far away from your bird feeders. That usually keeps them away from the birds.

French Bucket Garden Water FountainIf you’re an avid gardener, like so many millions across the country, you’re probably already a ”regular” at the local nurseries and garden supply stores. In fact, if you’ve got a free afternoon on the weekend, that’s probably where you can be found.

On the other hand, if you’re a beginning or lukewarm gardener, you may be unaware of the fun and treasures to be had at garden supply houses. Some are big DIY type places, with everything under the sun pertaining to gardening. Other garden supply shops may be specialty nurseries with smaller but select “gourmet” garden supplies.

If you’re in the novice or ho-hum group of gardeners, read on to see how simply visiting garden supply houses can become a hobby all on its own! You’ll find that, sooner or later, your interest and enthusiasm will grow and you’ll find yourself spending more time at this enjoyable hobby of all things garden.

Let’s look first at the larger type of garden supply store. These are usually the backbone of a strip mall, dominating the scene in a can’t-miss-it sort of way. Once you step inside, you might not know where to begin. These are organized like department stores, with patio furniture and cute little bistro tables having their own section. You’ll find patio table umbrellas, hammocks, gazebos, potting benches and lounge furniture.

Hydroponic equipment will have its own area, with everything you’ll need to begin a soil free garden indoors or in a greenhouse. Hydroponics is still not exactly mainstream, so the big garden supply stores have racks of brochures on the how-to’s to familiarize you with this interesting method of gardening.

You’ll start to wish your wallet would accommodate more of these goodies as you browse through the selection of fountains, DIY fish ponds, statuary, gazing globes and sundials. If nothing else, it’s food for thought: “That would be perfect in my rose garden.”

    >>>Garden Fountains are a great way to spruce up your garden.

Seasonal flower bulbs in their bins, with colorful pictures above each showing the resulting display next season is enough to make you grab a basket.

In the actual nursery area, the large garden supply store carries something for everyone, from herbs and cacti in little pots to fruit trees in 15-gallon containers.

Of course you’ll find every garden tool you could think of, with garden hoses, sprinklers and irrigation systems to suit every style and method of gardening.

Smaller garden supply stores tend to specialize in their plant selections and carry unique and hand made garden accessories. Their book selections are often hand picked by the owner to be useful in the context of their stock. For example,a small garden supply specializing in orchids and ferns would tend to have their bookshelves stocked with books you’d have trouble finding on the subject.

If you have any interest in gardens and gardening and a free afternoon, take yourself window shopping at a garden supply. I can almost guarantee you’ll be back again.

    Learn About Bird Baths

    Author: GardenOfWeedin

    bird baths

Typical and traditional stone bird baths are usually made of molded concrete formed in two pieces, the bowl and the pedestal. The bowl has an indentation or socket in the base which allows it to fit over the pedestal. The pedestal is typically about one meter tall. Both bowl and pedestal are decorated with reliefs. The bowl may have a shell type of motif or a woodland rocky spring motif. The pedestal usually incorporates one or more design features for aesthetic reasons. However, birds also are attracted to simpler designs, even a shallow plate or pie tin placed beneath a slowly dripping water outlet will welcome birds to a garden.

Birdbaths can be made with other types of materials including glass, metal, plastics, mosaic tile, or any other material that can weather well and hold water. In addition to the standard shallow container of standing water, there are also birdbaths which use a recirculating pump with filters, possibly coupled to a water supply with an automatic valve which will keep the birdbath water cleaner and requires less day-to-day care. Some use a solar powered pump to recirculate the water. Birds love the sound of running water, and therefore fountains can be the single most important thing that will attract birds to your garden.

Birdbaths often are the central feature of an overall plan for a garden setting that includes natural nectar and food plants, shrubs, trees, and feeders. They often are placed where they may be viewed through the windows of a home, school, or office. They also may be placed on a small patio, deck, or terrace which is designed carefully to provide for the safety of the birds by eliminating access by predators.
